Like a flock of sheep? Pure white limestone and mysterious limestone caves

Photo taken on February 14, 2024 (the field burning took place on February 10)
One of the three major karst sites in Japan.
The countless limestone rocks lined up are likened to a flock of sheep, and make for a magnificent sight.
This typical karst plateau in Japan, with its many scattered pure white limestone rocks reminiscent of a flock of sheep playing in a grassland (Hitsugunhara), is a natural monument along with the underground limestone caves.
You can enjoy it all year round, with spring burning, fresh greenery, and autumn silvergrass fields.
The area is also designated as Kitakyushu Quasi-National Park and is perfect for hiking.
Scale: 400-600m above sea level, 11km north to south, 2km east to west
Hiraodai is one of the leading karst plateaus in Japan.
The annual "open burning" event, which heralds the arrival of spring, is taking place.
Burning the fields helps to remove accumulated dead grass,
By allowing the plant to get plenty of sunlight, it promotes plant growth.
The purpose is to prevent forest fires and eradicate pests.
I went to Hiraodai after the field burning to take a stroll and take some photos.
